CONFERENCE SUSTAINABILITY & OUTCOMES

Conference Practice Guidelines:
Environmental Sustainability, Local Purchasing and Supporting the Local Community

This is a conference that walks the talk.  A conference that not only has a theme which organises the program, but enacts the theme in real and lasting ways.  The overall theme of the conference is:

"Building CommunityCentred Economies:  Dialogue for Action"

In achieving this end we endeavour to:

  • Actively contribute to the building of community centred economies throughout its lifespan and beyond;
  • Source as many conference related products from local and ethical sources;
  • Leave behind a richer and stronger local economy…particularly amongst peoples who have been disenfranchised from the mainstream economy;
  • Promote and use the services of social enterprises, community enterprises, social businesses and local businesses whenever possible and create spaces in which they can actively participate in the conference;
  • Encourage conference delegates to actively contribute to the strengthening of community centred economies by promoting the use of public transport, local family owned businesses; social and community enterprises; eating locally;
  • Promote positive impacts for the local economy and minimize impact on the local environment by promoting reuse, recycling and reduction of waste as much as possible.

Conference Outcomes

The conference is focused on action as well as reflection.  As part of the action we will:

  • Leave behind a ‘Community Centred Economies’ learning fund, which will be a regional revolving fund for the development of materials, events, trainings and activities centred on moving the key themes of the conference forward into the future;
  • Go forward with strong community to community relationships and networks and a declaration of common intent.
